Modern testimony in Mt. Everest mystery
Posted on:2010-08-17
Canadian explorers say that, they think they’ve fixed a historic debate about the 1st men to capture the peak of Mt. Everest in the Himalayas.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph said that, one of mountaineering’s most debated dispute is whether Britons George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the 1st people to attain the peak when they endeavored the ascend in 1924.
Explorers say that, they now think the pair could not have attained the peak and demised during a harsh storm that would have stripped them of oxygen.
Scientists at the University of Toronto told that, meteorological information gathered at the time of the 1924 attempt shows Mallory and Irvine were covered in a snowstorm that saw oxygen submerged to deadly low levels.Scientists say, modern information unfolds that there was a disastrous decrease in barometric pressure which would have killed any mountaineer on the approach to the peak.
They estimated the unexpected decrease in oxygen levels was even larger than one that killed 8 mountaineer’s on Everest on a single day in May 1996.
The discovery therefore approves New Zealander Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay as the 1st mountaineer’s to scale the 29,035-foot peak in 1953.
