Posted on:2009-01-30

A contingent of some 50 people will embark on a nine-day expedition all the way to Gorakshep (5,165m) near the Everest base camp in April to play a record-setting Twenty20 charity match.

According to a AFP report, two teams – Team Tenzing and Team Hillary -- will play Twenty20 match in Gorakshep to take the sport to new heights. They also plan to collect funds for two charities – London Traverners and Himalayan Trust, UK.

England cricket captain Andrew Strauss is the honorary skipper of Team Tenzing while vice-captain Alastair Cook is doing likewise for Team Hillary.

Self-confessed “cricket obsessive” Richard Kirtley dreamed up the Everest Test idea during a trip to the world’s highest mountain in 2006.
